Construction Supervisor       Alberta

Dowland Contracting Ltd is now recruiting for construction positions for both current and future projects. We are seeking a high calibre Foreman for our Alberta initiatives.


Job Description

Working in a team environment you will have responsibility for organizing, supervising and co-ordinating all of the activities and trades people on site, including logistics. Emphasis will be on safety, project schedule, project cost and project quality.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Overseeing project construction for compliance with site safety requirements, project plans and specifications, local codes and installation techniques.
  • Preparing a project work plan with input from all groups involved in the project, describing the scope, sequence and schedule of work.
  • Identifying potential problems and determining course of action in alignment to the scope, budget and schedule.
  • Resolving site conflicts and developing action plans regarding the sequencing of work and unforeseen conditions.
  • Working with the Superintendent in evaluating the impact of directives and/or scheduling changes on the contractual scope of work.
  • Coordinating project schedule and tracking progress on a frequent basis.
  • Notifying all groups affected by schedule changes or service disruptions.
  • Performing daily inspections on completed work to ensure quality is maintained in accordance with the project specifications and safety codes.
  • Assisting the Superintendent to manage operation, maintenance and repair activities to optimize downtime and associated costs.
  • Working with the Superintendent to develop cost and schedule estimates.
  • Acting as a contact point for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Working closely with management team to coordinate the delivery and completion of projects on sites.


Desired Skills & Qualifications

Exceptional organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with an ability to prioritize projects as needed. Good working knowledge of health & safety policies and regulations. A technical understanding of the construction industry is desired with the following skills and abilities:

  • Strong leadership qualities with the ability to supervise and coordinate the work of skilled workers in the building trades.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of workers with varying skill levels.
  • Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving.
  • Effective communication and writing skills.
  • To build teams and foster a positive working environment.
  • Excellent and proven organizational skills in order to meet multiple deadlines and handle multiple tasks within a high-pressure work environment.
  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity is required.

5 years + directly related work experience with a proven track record. Must have a strong background in construction and experience working in the industry. Building Construction Project Management and/or trade certification and experience an asset.

An appropriate and equivalent combination of education, experience and training may be considered.
